Beguni Paar — the violet border.
Natural off white Tussar silk forms the ground — warm, textured, and carrying the gentle character of the silk. Across it sit violet and teal blue buttis, bringing measured points of colour to the natural body.
But the defining detail is at the edge. Thick violet Jamdani borders run along both sides. They frame the saree like a page — off white within, violet at the edges, small flashes of teal across the centre. Then the pallu becomes denser. A heavily designed woven pallu gathers the visual weight at the end.
Jamdani uses an extra-weft technique, with motifs patiently built into the fabric one thread at a time, allowing the natural texture and lustre of Tussar silk to become the ground for intricate detailing.
Handwoven on a pit loom in the Sonamukhi / Krishnabazar region of Bankura, West Bengal. The Tussar silk blouse piece keeps the finish restrained in plain off white.
It photographs quieter than it wears.
