Product details +

Chhoti Chidiya — the little bird.

Hummingbirds hover across indigo Chanderi silk.

Small.

Repeated.

Placed by hand through the Dabu process.

The body carries hummingbird motifs all over, allowing the small scale of the birds to build a pattern that rewards a closer look.

At the edge, a thin golden zari border sits beside blue and white stripes, bringing a finer, more linear rhythm to the indigo field.

The pallu develops that idea further.

Panels of blue and white stripes meet a zigzag pattern, shifting from the figurative body to a more graphic close.

Small birds through the body.

Fine stripes at the edge.

Panels and zigzags at the close.

One deep colour holding it all together.

According to the supplied craft information, Dabu is a mud-resist hand block printing tradition of Rajasthan. A resist paste made from mud and natural binders is pressed onto the cloth with carved wooden blocks before dyeing. When the paste is washed away, the resisted pattern remains.

Every impression is placed individually by hand, block beside block, so small shifts in alignment belong naturally to the character of the cloth.

Worked in Rajasthan using the hand block print method, with a supplied making time of approximately 12–15 days.

The blouse piece is indigo Chanderi silk with a zigzag pattern, carrying one of the pallu's graphic elements into the blouse.

Light-hearted and easy to wear often.

WHY AAYTA CHOSE IT

Small birds. One deep field.

Tiny hummingbirds reward a closer look across the indigo body, while gold, blue-white stripes and a final zigzag give the edges a sharper rhythm.
