Product details +

Jaba Bagan — a hibiscus garden.

Pink Bangalore silk becomes the ground for wax-resist Batik.

Across the body, maroon crack Batik creates the veined lines that give the cloth its movement.

The pattern is not simply laid onto the surface.

According to the supplied craft information, molten wax is applied to the cloth before dyeing. As the wax cools and cracks, fine lines of dye seep through, creating Batik's characteristic veined effect.

Here, those lines travel across the body and into both borders.

Maroon Batik floral designs run along both sides, with one side carrying a skirt border.

Pink through the field.

Dark maroon through the cracks.

Flowers holding the edges.

The pallu then turns fully maroon, carrying a traditional flower motif across it.

The irregularity is part of the design.

Wax cracks differently each time, so the supplied craft information notes that no two Batik lengths emerge alike.

Made by hand in Bolpur, Birbhum, West Bengal, with a supplied making time of approximately 10–12 days.

The blouse piece continues the palette in running pink and maroon silk.

Deep pink with the temperature turned up.

Care & handmade variations +

Dry clean only.
Jaba Bagan is made using hand-worked wax-resist Batik. The wax naturally cracks during the process, creating variations in the fine maroon lines, floral forms and colour distribution. These irregularities are characteristic of the craft, and no two Batik lengths emerge exactly alike.

WHY AAYTA CHOSE IT

Because the cracks are the drawing.

Maroon Batik veins move across the pink silk before gathering into floral borders and a deep maroon pallu — irregularity used as the saree’s defining line.

THE CRAFT

Batik, where the wax decides the line.

Made in Bolpur, Batik uses wax to resist dye; as the wax cracks, colour enters through fine openings and creates the distinctive veined pattern that makes every length different.
