Kari Bili — black and white.
An Ilkal saree stripped back to three tones.
The cotton body is built from large black and white checks — graphic, repetitive and deliberately direct.
At the edge, a grey Chikki Paras border keeps the palette restrained.
Then the material changes.
The pallu moves from cotton into silk, woven in black and grey Gomi Teni.
What remains is almost pure architecture.
Grid.
Line.
Border.
Join.
The traditional Ilkal construction is still present, but colour has been reduced to black, white and grey.
That restraint gives Kari Bili its particular character.
The blouse piece continues the body in black and white checked cotton, rather than introducing another colour.
Handwoven on a pit loom in Ilkal, Karnataka, with a supplied making time of approximately 5–7 days.
Monochrome does something quietly radical to a tradition built on contrast: this one states.

Care & handmade variations +
Dry clean only.
Kari Bili is handwoven on a pit loom. Slight differences in check alignment, border definition, pallu detailing and weave may naturally occur.
According to the supplied craft information, Ilkal weaving is distinguished by the relationship between its body, border and pallu, with traditional vocabulary including Gomi, Chikki Paras and other geometric forms.
Small variations are part of the character of a handwoven textile and should not automatically be considered defects.

Ilkal is defined by the contrast between body, border and pallu. Here, large black-and-white cotton checks meet a grey Chikki Paras border, before a black-and-grey silk Gomi Teni pallu completes the monochrome composition.
