Product details +

Machh Pata — fish and leaf.

Ivory Tussar is left deliberately plain through the body.

No competing colour.

No scattered motif.

The work waits for the edges.

Along both borders, black fish motifs are hand painted across the ivory ground.

The pallu expands the vocabulary, bringing leaf and fish motifs together in black.

Fish along the edge.

Fish and leaves at the close.

Ivory and black everywhere else.

The restraint is the point.

According to the supplied craft information, Batik is a wax-resist craft. Molten wax is applied to the cloth by hand before dyeing; as the wax cools and cracks, fine lines of dye can seep through, creating Batik's characteristic veined effect. Some pieces also carry hand-painted work alongside the resist.

Here, the Batik Tussar ground is paired with hand-painted black fish motifs on the borders and leaf-and-fish motifs across the pallu.

Made by hand in Bolpur, Birbhum, West Bengal, with a supplied making time of approximately 10–12 days.

The blouse piece continues the same controlled palette in ivory silk with a black border on the sleeves.

Auspicious, and completely modern.

Care & handmade variations +

Dry clean only.
Machh Pata combines Batik with hand-painted detailing. Slight variations in the fish and leaf motifs, painted edges, resist work and colour distribution may naturally occur. According to the supplied craft information, no two Batik lengths emerge exactly alike.

WHY AAYTA CHOSE IT

Because the body knows when to stay quiet.

An uninterrupted ivory field leaves all the storytelling to the edges — black fish along both borders, then fish and leaves gathering together across the pallu.

THE CRAFT

Batik, with the detail worked by hand.

Made in Bolpur, Batik uses wax to resist dye and create naturally irregular lines; here, hand-painted black fish and leaf motifs add another layer of work to the ivory Tussar.
