Product details +

Megh Bela — the hour of clouds.

Grey Murshidabad silk forms the ground.

Across it, black crack Batik moves through the body and both side borders — fine resist lines drifting over grey like changing weather.

The palette begins quietly.

Grey.

Black.

Depth without hard contrast.

Then colour enters at the edges.

Black and multicoloured Batik floral designs run along both borders, lifting the restrained body without overwhelming it.

The pallu opens further.

Black and multicoloured flowers are hand painted across the palla, making it the most expressive part of the saree.

Low-voiced through the body.

Floral at the edges.

Fully opened at the pallu.

According to the supplied craft information, Batik is a wax-resist craft. Molten wax is applied by hand before dyeing; as the wax cools and cracks, fine lines of dye seep through to create Batik's characteristic veined effect. Some pieces also carry hand-painted work alongside the resist.

Made by hand in Bolpur, Birbhum, West Bengal, with a supplied making time of approximately 10–12 days.

The blouse piece provides a darker close in running black silk with a border at the sleeve.

Overcast, in the best sense.

Care & handmade variations +

Dry clean only.
Megh Bela combines wax-resist Batik with hand-painted floral work. Natural variations in the black crack lines, floral forms, hand-painted details and colour distribution are part of the handmade process; according to the supplied craft information, no two Batik lengths emerge exactly alike.

WHY AAYTA CHOSE IT

The colour waits until the pallu.

Grey silk and black crack Batik keep the body deliberately low-voiced, while multicoloured florals gather along the borders before opening fully across the hand-painted pallu.

THE CRAFT

Batik, where the crack becomes the line.

Made in Bolpur, Batik uses wax to resist dye; as the wax cracks, fine lines of colour enter the cloth, while hand-painted work can add another layer of detail alongside the resist.
