Product details +
Pekhom — the peacock's tail.
Peacocks and flowers spread across beige Gachi Tussar.
Stitched by hand.
Built in colour.
Held together by the small running stitch of Kantha.
The body carries peacock and floral motifs all over the saree, allowing the natural beige ground to remain visible between the embroidery.
Along the skirt, a multicolour floral and leaf border gathers the pattern into a continuous edge.
Then the peacock comes forward.
The pallu brings together multicoloured peacock and leaf motifs with stripes, giving the saree its most concentrated passage of colour and pattern.
Peacocks through the body.
Flowers and leaves at the edge.
Peacock, leaves and stripes at the close.
According to the supplied craft information, Kantha is the running-stitch embroidery tradition of Bengal. Worked entirely by hand, row upon row of small stitches build figures, flowers and scenes across the cloth while giving its surface a soft ripple.
Pekhom is worked in Nichubandhgora, Santiniketan (Bolpur, Birbhum), West Bengal, with a supplied making time of approximately 4–6 months.
The blouse piece is beige Gachi Tussar with multicolour stripes, picking up the linear finish of the pallu without repeating its peacock motifs.
A proud bird, told gently.
